Parent's (Spectator's) Code of Conduct

This Parent's Code of Conduct has been developed to clarify and define the standards of behavior from parents (and their guests) affiliated with the Morris United Soccer Club.

  1. I will emphasize that the game is played for fun, and for the beneift of the youth, not adults.
  2. I will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players (on both teams), coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.
  3. I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
  4. I will not ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition and will provide positive and encouraging feedback when cheering.
  5. I will teach my child to play within the spirit and intentions of the rules and the Laws of the Game and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  6. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront officials or coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place if needed.
  7. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
  8. I will explain to my child that doing one's best and developing as a player is more important than winning.
  9. I will never place the value of winning over the safety and welfare of the players.
  10. I will demand a sports environment free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all youth sporting events.
  11. I will communicate with my child's coach about any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others. I will make every effort to have my child attend practices and games and will communicate with my child's coach if my child will be late or absent.

I understand that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned Parent Code of Conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Verbal warning by an official, team coach, and/or head of Morris United Soccer Club
  • Game forfeiture through an official or league
  • Suspension from attending Morris United Soccer Club games, practices or other events
